This fabric has a unique texture and is remarkably elegant.
Upon investigation,

Australian wool / Egyptian cotton
It appears to be a Swiss-made blended fabric from that era.

It's as if rayon is mixed in.
It also has a smooth, soft texture.
But it also has the firmness of a fabric.
This is a high-quality checked fabric, typical of imported fabrics.

And yet
I love the basic red and white.

The stitching on the bodice is also very elaborate.
